We all want
that new house feeling to ring in the new year, but what if it isn’t in the
budget to buy a whole new house? Here are a few ways you can refresh your home
for the new year without breaking the bank.
1. Move the Furniture
We all get used to seeing the same things, the same way, every day. For a quick and easy refresh Change up the sitting room, move the bed to the other wall, dust off that dresser in the corner and put it front and center instead! Changing things around a little bit could be just what you need to feel fresh in the upcoming year.
2. Brighten up the Room
Lighting is a huge game changer when it comes to the feel of any room in the house. Try a new light fixture all together, or if you’re looking to save a buck, just change out the bulbs. Want a cozier vibe in the living room? Turn off that overhead light and get some lamps with warm Edison bulbs as a perfect finishing touch.
3. Add a New Coat of Paint
Paint chipping and uneven lines can make even the most beautiful home feel a little unfinished. A new coat of the original paint color can help brighten up the space and help with any damage or fading that has occurred over time. Looking for a bit more of a spruce up? Most home interior colors range in neutrals from cool greys to warm browns. Maybe it is time to spice up your home by adding an accent wall of forest green to your family room or restyle your kitchen with fiery hues of tangerine temptations.
4. Change up your accent Colors
Disjointed accent colors and decorations that have dulled with time can make your home feel stale. Adding a bright color to an overall neutral color palette can be a striking signature style. Make a vibrant statement in your home with a few splashes of color to truly tie the whole place together. For some ideas try out Pantones’ 2022 Color of the year, Very Peri, or stay ahead of the trends with Viva Magenta, sparking a statement as 2023 color of the year.
5. Get Organized
Everyone feels a lot more relaxed and at home when things are cleaned and organized. Organizing involves two main steps: getting rid of the things you don’t need by decluttering and finding a place for everything by making sure everything is in its place. Some simple and easy tips to live by when organizing your home can be, if you use it all the time and it’s not convenient to put away it won’t get put away. And whether it is donating, having a garage sale, or throwing it away, if it doesn’t give you joy don’t have it in your home. Everything deserves a fresh start and maybe getting rid of some old things is the first step to yours. Conquer that clutter this year!
6. Hang a Statement Piece
Bring a statement piece to your home. Sometimes it’s hard to decide what the perfect fit is for your home. If art is what you are looking for, check out local artists or galleries or even DIY it. Get your family together to make something to be proud of for the center of your living space. Check out some ideas from The Spruce and Better Homes & Gardens to get you started.
7. Bring The Outdoors In
Having a fresh element in your home can bring joy and life to even the darkest places. Starting an indoor garden may be easier than you think, and it can be more than just lovely to look at. Grow some spices to use in your kitchen, such as basil, rosemary, chives, and cilantro. Even take it up a step and try your hand at buying dwarf trees such as lemons, mandarin oranges, and avocados, which do best in indoor environments. Grow your house plant collection of easy-to-take -care-of and beautiful plants such as snake plants and peace lilies.
